A fort derives its title from either Golla Konda, which is the telugu word for Shepherd's Hill. These are said that the shepherd boy came through an idol on the hill. This led to the construction of the mud fort by the then Kakatiya ruler of the kingdom around the places. About 200 years late Bahmani rulers (1364) took possessiin of the fort which later passed on to the Qutb Shahi dynasty around 1507. All over a period of 62 years the mud fort was expanded by the number 1 3 Qutb Shahi kings into a massive fort of granite, extending around Quintet km in circumference. It remained a capital of the Qutb Shahi dynasty until 1590 when the capital was shifted to Hyderabad. A Qutb Shahis expanded the fort, whose X km outer wall enclosed the city.
